Nobel Prize-winning chemist, Dr. Henri Moissan first discovered this rare naturally occurring mineral inside a crater in Arizona. Also known as silicon carbide, moissanite (named after its discoverer) was not actually aggregated into gemstones until the late 1990s, when scientists created silicon carbide crystals using a thermal growing process.
