Whitehouse Brothers

More than any other designer presented in the collections of Ben Garelick Jewelers, engagement and wedding rings designed by Whitehouse Brothers showcase timeless vintage and antique-style designs known for exquisite filigree. Founded in 1898 by Joseph C. and William H. Whitehouse, the Cincinnati, Ohio brothers were inspired by the work of the Rookwood potters and architects of the time to create art nouveau and Edwardian jewelry that is still sought after today. The brothers quickly developed a reputation for manufacturing finely designed and crafted platinum jewelry.

The Masters Of Platinum

In the early 20th century, many jewelry manufacturers avoided platinum because of its difficulty to work with. However, Whitehouse Brothers had created a method for manufacturing the precious metal that resulted in an exceptional end product when compared to gold. Considered the experts in designing platinum jewelry, the company created a series of ads in 1919 known as “The Romance of Platinum.” The ad campaign showcased the history of platinum as a royal treasure from its original discovery and created interest in purchasing platinum jewelry. Soon Whitehouse Brothers had become the largest manufacturing jeweler in America with more than 100 craftsman working to create the finest jewelry including wedding and engagement rings.

Whitehouse Vintage Designs Today

Today, Whitehouse Brothers still maintains it impeccable reputation for creating quality jewelry based on fine designs full of filigree detail and lasting perfection. Platinum continues to be the king among metals, allowing the designers hands to raise it to the plane of the jewel itself and combining with the gemstones to create an overall work of art. The timeless styles are sculptures reflecting years of drawing, painting, metal working and perception of the world. One of the most beloved designs at Ben Garelick is the “Palisades” Diamond Engagement Ring that spotlights vertical lace bars and tapered diamonds on the sides. Another popular design is the "Venetian Crown" Vintage Style Engagement Ring that features a fan of flower petals and fine filigree accents. The Whitehouse Brothers’ designs are most popularly ordered in platinum, but are also available in 18K and 14K, white, rose or yellow gold.
