Why Should I Solder My Wedding Rings?
Unless you’re planning to wear your diamond engagement ring without the wedding band or vice versa, at anytime, most brides prefer to have their rings soldered together.

When you solder your engagement ring and wedding band together, the two rings stop rubbing up against each other and that means less maintenance for you and more money saved in the long run.
More comfort
Engagement rings and wedding rings have a tendency to spin around on your finger, especially when you have a heavy center diamond or large center stone.
They can catch on your other fingers and pinch your skin when it gets caught between the two rings.
By soldering your rings together, your two rings become one and it fits comfortably.
Better alignment
Many couples purchase engagement rings and wedding bands in a set, meaning they were designed to look as one ring when fitted together properly.
For example, when you line up the two rings, you will want the scroll from your engagement ring to flow into your scroll on your wedding band.
You will want your channel set diamonds on your wedding band to line up perfectly with the channel on your engagement ring.
These matches can only be made successfully when you solder the two rings together in their exact placement.
Soldering Tips
When you make the choice to solder your wedding band and engagement ring, consider these best practices:
- Have the jeweler check to make sure the engagement ring and the wedding band have equal inside diameters
- Point out the correct alignment of the two rings, and if there is a correct side of the engagement ring that the wedding band goes on
- Your wedding band should be soldered to your engagement ring in at least two spots. At Ben Garelick Jewelers, we solder at the top and the bottom of the ring for added strenth and increased security. Soldering in one spot is easier (and less money), but the rings can flex, loosening diamond settings. Plus they won't stay secure as long with the daily stress of removing the rings from your fingers over a period of time.
- The soldering should be done carefully so that it still looks like two rings on the back side, and not one single ring.
- NOTE - Once your rings are soldered together, they act like one ring and thus will fit tighter. When you drop your rings off to be soldered, Ben Garelick will size your rings so they fit properly. At home, if you want to see if you can take the rings off together then the fit is fine. If you cannot remove your rings together, then they will need to be adjusted a little larger. If the ring(s) go on easily and there is slight resistance (most likely at your knuckle) when they are removed, you’re in good shape.
