John & Bailey

How did you two meet?
We continued to hang out and Johnny slowly started to move his things to my house in Penn Yan. I knew he was not leaving when he decided to move his 2,000 pound tool chest into my garage.
We made the long distance work. Johnny would come down every single day he had off and I would go up to Buffalo to see him. He instantly became my entire world and no amount of time together was long enough.
Our relationship really was solidified, in my mind, the night Ryder was hit by a car and passed away on June 30, 2021. Johnny took care of everything and was my rock through it all.
Before Ryder’s passing we always wanted to be a family of 4; Johnny, myself, and our 2 fur babies. God had other plans and we moved ahead and brought Zeke home July 9th. Prior to Ryder’s passing we had asked the same nephew to take our pictures with the dogs. Although plans had changed, we were still planning on getting these photos taken.
I have always been very specific as to when and how I wanted someone to propose to me. Johnny knew my wishes. He coordinated with his nephew Matthew to get those family pictures taken with his intention of proposing to me that day. We planned to take our pictures on the dock at my parents house on Friday, August 20. Once again the universe had other plans. Wednesday night a huge storm hit and the dock was under water. Johnny’s plans were ruined.
Johnny frantically scrambled Thursday, August 19 trying to come up with a new proposal plan. He called my cousin Molly and she helped him come up with a plan. Johnny and I were planning on joining my parents and Molly that night for Thirsty Thursday at Abandon. Johnny knew that Abandon was a special place to me as I have been going up there almost every Thursday with my dad and Ryder for years. Johnny met with his parents and my parents to tell them his plan.
Once we were at Abandon we had our first drink. Then Johnny got a “phone call” and went down near the vineyards. I was completely oblivious to what was going on and went back into the bar to get another drink, leaving my cellphone at the table. My mom had to come and get me because there was a text from Johnny asking for me to come down to the vineyard. I thought something was wrong so I went down immediately. I kept asking if we needed to leave and what was going on. That’s when he grabbed my arm. Now I was really freaking out because we were causing a scene. He then got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I immediately said yes! The entire brewery watched our engagement and started cheering. Yet again we could not wipe the smiles off our faces.
Johnny and I are the perfect balance for each other. He is the calm to my crazy and I keep him on his toes. One of our favorite sayings is “you keep me safe, I keep you wild.” We both cannot wait to see what the rest of our lives bring.
