COLORColor refers to the body color of a diamond. Most diamonds contain a tinge of yellow. In general, a diamond with less body color is more valuable. Color is graded using the alphabet. A "D" color stone is completely colorless. These stones are rare and very expensive. As the diamond picks up slight amounts of body color, the scale runs down the alphabet to Z. The GIA considers stones in the D-F range to be "colorless," stones in the G-J range to be "near colorless," K-M to be "faint yellow," and so on. Differences in color can be seen with the naked eye, especially when loose stones are compared side by side. Most diamonds, although appear colorless; actually have slight tones of yellow or brown. As these tones become more easily apparent, the rarity and cost decrease. The Ben Garelick Diamond dramatizes the rare splendor of a diamond because it produces such dazzling brilliance.
