The principal components of diamond value are often summarized by use of the four "C"s:

Cut, Color, Carat Weight, and Clarity

The Four C's is a universal grading system developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), a non-profit authority in gemology. Cut, color, Carat weight and clarity play an important part in the type of diamond you are looking for and how you will choose it.
